8000 Meters Facts
Everest 2005/2006: Leo and Deryl Kelly
and son climbing team have climbed together for twenty years, since Deryl
was six years old. In 1999 they became the first Canadian father and son
to summit Alaska's Mt. McKinley (Denali). In 1997 Leo summited Mt
Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America.
In the spring of 2001 as they
both stood at the foot of the Khumbu ice fall they were about to begin the
biggest challenge of their life on the worlds highest and one of the most
deadly mountains in the world, Mt. Everest. Deryl Kelly,
became the youngest Canadian to summit at the age of twenty-five. Still, to
this date, no Canadian has reached the summit of Mt. Everest without the use
of supplementary oxygen.
Leo and Deryl Kelly has postponed their return to Everest
until 2005. (Source Leo Kelly last week...) But they will be back!
