Everest 2005: Mallory and Irvine The Final Chapter: 3 parts

©EverestNews.com

How do we summarize Mallory and Irvine 2005? Probably in 3 parts, and than a Q&A if you wish....

A.) The horror of it all. Addressing the rumors...

B.) "it is very possible to go that way staying on the ridge"

C.) Have you ever looked at DV film for 3 hours or more?

Let's start with the easy one, "it is very possible to go that way staying on the ridge"

The climbers feel it is possible to stay up on the ridge on Mt Everest and go around the "real Second Step" while staying on the ridge. For those of you new to all of this, the climbers today traverse below the ridge and climb up the North Face and basically bypass the real Second Step on Everest. The Face that you see above with the ladder have become known as the "Second Step", but in pictures and maps the real Second Step, which is on the ridge, is labeled as the "Second Step". Confused? Read that again and look at the picture above :)

Our climbers do not believe Mallory would have gone the way climbers do today "on the yellow brick road". They believe Mallory would have most probably stayed on the ridge. There was no 'yellow brick road" for George.....

The climbers thought it was too dangerous with the mass numbers of climbers on Everest in the short window and the weather conditions to attempt the real Second Step. We, of course, supported their decision to play it safe. The climbers did take pictures, some of which we have just received and others we are waiting on.... We have not had time nor the detailed information to yet to draw more of an opinion ourselves at EverestNews.com.

It will obviously take a climber to attempt the real Second Step to know whether or not it can be done. Our climbers feel it can be done... Time will tell.

Our Theory

We returned to Mount Everest in search of an answer.
