Wreckage at camp 1, showing the tent that was drug over,
and which Durga and Pierre spent their first few hours in after the
Yes it appears the avalanche on Everest was too hard for the
"media" understand. So much of what the media is writing is total trash.
Apparently not really interested in the truth or what really happened or
probably it is simply too complex for their 10 second newsflash; they instead
hype, hype, hype. The current hype is about getting these guys off the
mountain the last 48 hours. Does this
guy look like he needed to be "rescued" from base camp? LOOK REAL CLOSE!.
Does he look sick?? Do you think he is about to die??
The media is saying Pierre Bourdeau is hospitalized. Does he
LOOK hospitalized to you? Can we have that nice of clothes the next time we go
to the hospital? Pierre Bourdeau as you can see is fine.
We could have lost 50-100 climbers in the avalanche on
Everest, but they were not there. They missed the bullet, as one guide
stated. That story, does not sell to the "media".
The media has families worried to death! Families, stop
reading the trash. About 10-20% of all climbers leave the expeditions early
for various reason every year. Climbers on the mountain comments, "they just
make this stuff up". Climbers have been reported by the media in the
avalanche who were below base camp at the time!!! Of course most of these
reporters writing these stories don't even know where base camp is, or camp 1.
Note the AP story says, "one of the survivors of an
avalanche at Mount Everest". There was NO deaths in the avalanche!
RELIABLE sources tell EverestNews.com that Durga Sherpa has a
badly bruised back. He is expected to fully recover. We spent 3-4 hours with
ABC News yesterday, and they still got it wrong. We told them it was wrong,
and they told us the truth did not sound like enough for a story. So they ran
the HYPE! They used content from climbers without the climbers consent or
Where has the media gone? Of course we all know, in the
trash can. Too bad they can't take 30 minutes and try to understand what
happened and write a good story.
Pierre Bourdeau has
a great story to tell. Listen, try to understand, and please get it right.
It is not enough, then don't write hype instead.
Update 5/8/2005: Since our editorial some of the media seems
to be doing better on this story. For example the
Chinese has a good story with a real source and we understand CBC
Newsworld in Canada got it right! They got Pierre Bourdeau at his hotel
yesterday and they put him live on CBC Newsworld to tell his story about what
happened. They made it clear that he was at a hotel and he made it clear that
his and the others' injuries were minor. We encourage you to check it out if
you have time. Sadly we are still seeing US TV reports of the hype...
We do not archive Editorials, so this one
outdated around Tuesday.
